Brennan to lay wreath at 1812 Cemetery

As the Fourth of July events on the Eastern Promenade ramp up on Wednesday evening, Portland's mayor will take a few minutes to commemorate the War of 1812.Mayor Michael Brennan will lay a wreath at the 1812 Cemetery at the promenade at 7 p.m. This year is the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812.

The ceremony will take place at the spot where where prisoners of war who had died for illnesses were buried in a mass grave at the end of Quebec Street, according to a press release. A boulder was placed over the grave, though a plaque was installed with the names of the dead men.
