Hot island ride being raffled off

For a community that prides itself on a certain nonchalance toward automobiles, with plenty of high-personality "island cars" to prove it, Peaks Island this week is awfully focused on a candy apple red horseless carriage.
Granted, the coveted sedan (well, it seats four) is a golf cart, but it's still bound to turn a few heads.
This Saturday is the deadline for buying raffle tickets for the four-person golf cart being offered as one of several fundraising activities in support of the Peaks Island Tax and Energy Assistance, or PITEA. The group was organized to help islanders with property tax increases and has expanded to include energy assistance under the theme of keeping people in their homes.
Tickets for the raffle are $25 for singles and five for $100. Organizers have limited the total sales to 500 tickets, and will be hawking them DownFront from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. today through Saturday.

Ticket-holders will be invited to a drawing party on Sunday. You can find out more by calling 766-5854 or 766-0067, but don't try online — the group does not have a website.
