Columnist right: Restaurant owners should stick to what they know
Editor, Good morning, Natalie, I just read your recent column titled: “So, you want to own your own restaurant…” (Natalie Ladd, Wednesday, July 21), and I think every prospective restaurant owner should read this. I actually work for a payroll company called ADP and the majority of my business comes from the Restaurant/Bar industry, so I am constantly meeting with owners and helping them start their business, hire employees, process their payroll, and even set them up with workers compensation. Many of them do see the value in using a payroll company, but it’s amazing how many think that they can just handle everything themselves. I couldn’t agree more with your comments about basically sticking to what they’re good at, which is making food, not “balancing a check book” or calculating payroll, etc. Not to mention that it’s terribly time consuming, time that they just can’t afford to waste. Anyway … just wanted to say that I love the article and agree with you 100 percent. I look forward to reading more of your articles.
